Open Audition to Determine National Anthem Singer for Sam’s Town 300

One aspiring singer will get the opportunity of a lifetime before the Sam’s Town 300 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Race sponsor Sam’s Town Hotel & Gambling Hall and local FOX TV affiliate (KVVU-TV) are staging an open audition – dubbed “Speedway Superstar” – to find a singer to perform the national anthem prior to the Feb. 28 NASCAR Nationwide Series event at LVMS.

“Each year, we receive hundreds of CDs, e-mails and letters from people who want to sing the national anthem before our events,” said LVMS president Chris Powell. “We’ve had a number of celebrities perform the song in the past, but this competition will give anyone with the ability to sing this challenging song an opportunity to perform in front of approximately 100,000 people and a national television audience.”

The first audition will be conducted Saturday, Jan. 24, at Sam’s Town on Boulder Highway. All performers must sing the national anthem a cappella. The top 25 singers on Jan. 24 will advance to the next round of competition on Saturday, Feb. 7. The top five performances from Feb. 7 will be aired on FOX 5 the following week with the winner being chosen by a viewer vote as well as a panel of judges.

“Sam’s Town already plays a big part during NASCAR Weekend in Las Vegas, so it seemed like a natural fit for us to host the Speedway Superstar competition,” said Andre Filosi, vice president and assistant general manager of Sam’s Town. “We look forward to working with Las Vegas Motor Speedway and FOX 5 to find the right talent to sing the National Anthem for this year’s Sam’s Town 300.”

The Jan. 24 auditions will begin at 10 a.m. Anyone wishing to audition must arrive at Sam’s Town before noon on Jan. 24. For more information on the competition, please contact Jeff Motley at
