Ozomatli Joins Big Weekend of Music at Toyota Rock ‘N’ Roll Las Vegas Marathon & 1/2 Marathon

will perform at the Toyota Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas 5K on Saturday, November 10 at 6:45 p.m. The 5K and concert will begin at the Las Vegas Festival Grounds across from the SLS Las Vegas Hotel and Casino. 

Ozomatli joins Capital Cities, who on Sunday, November 11 at 3 p.m. are headlining the Toyota Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas Marathon & ½ Marathon, creating a fun filled weekend of music and running in Sin City. The largest event in the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series takes place on November 10-11, 2018 as the only private event to shut down the Las Vegas Strip at night.

“Ozomatli has performed for us in Vegas before, and we know they will bring the perfect energy for our runners and spectators,” said Josh Furlow, Managing Director for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series. “Together with Capital Cities and the numerous on course bands, we are looking forward to celebrating a great weekend on the Las Vegas Strip.”

Since their inception in 1995, innovation and creativity have defined Ozomatli. Hailing from Los Angeles, the six-piece band found a way to represent the city’s eclectic culture through music that appeals to the local community and the world beyond. They continue to harness their musical instincts by conceiving new concepts and forging new sounds that keep fans on their toes and the world dancing. With eight studio albums, the group displays their wide array of musical styles – including salsa, jazz, funk, reggae, rap, and others. In 1998, Ozomatli released its self-titled debut album, and soon after opened for Carlos Santana on his Supernatural world tour. In 2002, Ozomatli won a Grammy Award for “Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album.” The group has appeared on TV and films as well as composed music for Oscar-winning film Happy Feet 2. Since 2011 they have served as the in-house band for stand-up comedian Gabriel Iglesias Comedy Central’s television show, Gabriel Iglesias Presents Stand Up Revolution.

Race weekend also features the Toyota Rock ‘n’ Roll Concert Series when Billboard, VMA, and Grammy nominated indie-electro group, Capital Cities, brings their Multi-Platinum hit “Safe and Sound” and forthcoming studio album singles to the weekend’s excitement. Past Las Vegas headliners include The Goo Goo Dolls, Kid Rock, All-American Rejects and Macklemore & Ryan LewisIn addition to the headliner concert, 20+ live bands and DJs spanning all genres will perform along the race courses entertaining and encouraging runners with more music than ever as they make their way to the finish line.

Toyota Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas Marathon & ½ Marathon gives participants a one-of-a-kind nighttime running experience as the only private event to close the Las Vegas Boulevard at night. Beginning with an all new start line, the marathon and half marathon will commence in the heart of Las Vegas Blvd. near the MGM Grand Las Vegas and take runners past iconic Vegas sights such as the ‘Welcome to Las Vegas’ sign, the Bellagio Fountains, Fremont St. and downtown Las Vegas before finishing in front of the Mirage Hotel & Casino. With a renewed focus on the core pillars of Bringing Fun to the Run with great music in a community environment, runners of all athletic levels will be treated to more music, live bands and entertainment on course as well as new and improved aid stations.

Race weekend kicks off with a Health & Fitness Expo on Thursday, Nov. 8 from 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., Friday, Nov. 9 from 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 10 from 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The expo will showcase vendors featuring the latest in running gear, nutrition and training and is free and open to the public.
