Pacquiao’s destruction of Hatton began with two knockdowns in the first round, both of which were set up by right hooks. Hatton had no answers for the lightning fast punches of Pacquiao who scored with 57% accuracy.
Near the end of the second round, Pacquiao hit Hatton with a right and then delivered the knockout punch — a huge left hook that Hatton never saw coming. Hatton appeared be be unconscious as he hit the canvas and referee Kenny Bayless immediately ended the bout. Medics rushed into the ring to attend to Hatton and he was later taken to a hospital as a precaution.
Pacquiao celebrated his victory, saying it was “easy” — easier than his victory over Oscar De La Hoya which sent the ex-champ into retirement.
Pacquiao’s promoters would like to sign a lucrative fight deal with unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr. but he’s planning to come out of retirement to fight Juan Manuel Marquez, so the winner of that bout may fight Pacquiao later this year.
