Shorthanded, Empty Net Goals Lead to 4-1 Wranglers Win

In their second of a three-game series against the Ontario Reign, the Las Vegas Wranglers won 4-1 tonight thanks to special team goals.

Wranglers forward Eric Lampe opened up scoring with a shorthanded, unassisted goal six minutes into the game. Just four minutes later in the first, Ontario forward Francois Brisebois tied the game 1-1 with an assist from center Matt Tassone. That score was held through the first and second periods as Wranglers goaltender Joe Fallon saved 23 shots and Reign goalie Chris Carozzi stopped 18.

Thirty-one seconds into the third frame, Lampe tallied his second shorthanded, unassisted goal of the night to put the Wranglers in the lead 2-1, and give him the eventual game-winning goal. To add to their lead, Wranglers forward Judd Blackwater secured a goal with Lampe and defenseman Barry Goers on the assists at the 15:53 mark. Ontario pulled Carozzi late in the third for a man advantage, and newly returned center Pete MacArthur collected an empty-net goal with help from forward Ryan Weston and center Ash Goldie. Las Vegas won 4-1 to record their fourth straight home win of the season, and Lampe, Fallon and captain Mike Madill each received one of Three Stars of the game.

Las Vegas hits the road to Ontario tomorrow to play the Reign at home in their third game of the series. Tonight’s full box score can be found here.
