More people can bowl and participate in this year’s Homeless Youth in the Alley Bowling Tournament as the popular event has expanded to add an evening tournament featuring a DJ and cosmic bowling, more sponsorship opportunities, and more fun in addition to the usual daytime superhero fun.

Benefitting local homeless youth and the nonprofit Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth (NPHY), the two events will be held on Saturday, June 9 at the Suncoast Bowling Center, located at 9090 Alta Drive.

With daytime and evening bowling options, the traditional superhero-related event is now themed “Superheroes by Day” for the early tournament and “Vigilantes by Night” for the later cosmic bowling tournament. Both include family-friendly fun, unlimited bowling, food, giveaway items, raffle prizes, photo booth, awards and more; and the evening session also features a DJ and cosmic bowling. Costumes reflective of each theme are encouraged.

“Homeless Youth in the Alley is one of our largest fundraisers of the year, and we’ve been fortunate that it usually sells out each year,” said Arash Ghafoori, NPHY executive director. “We’re excited to expand this fun event with a nighttime component so more community members can participate and learn about the problem of youth homelessness and what we’re doing to help this vulnerable population. In addition to bowlers, our added capacity provides great ways for more businesses and other supporters to get involved through sponsorship or donations. We’ll be able to raise more needed funds for our programming from basic survival needs to helping homeless youth on a path to reach self-sufficiency.”

Trophies will be presented to the first, second and third place bowling teams at each session with the overall highest score at each event receiving a life-size traveling trophy. Special team honors also will be awarded for best superhero and vigilante costume, best team name and most successful fundraiser.
