The ALLI Dew Tour Skates Into Las Vegas
With the Alli Dew Tour skating into Las Vegas this week (October 14-17), fans of action sports will have the opportunity to see the world’s greatest talent in BMX, Skate and FMX all in one place – the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.
But what many people don’t realize is the risk these athletes take every day for the benefit of their sports and fans. Take BMX star Mike Spinner, who took first place at the kick-off of the Dew Tour’s BMX Park event – but now, due to an ACL injury, is unable to compete in the finals this week. While Spinner will recover, many athletes, like Stephen Murray, who was paralyzed from the neck down following a BMX dirt accident, will spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair.
That’s where the Athlete Recovery Fund (ARF) comes in – founded in 2007 after Murray’s catastrophic injury, the ARF offers financial support for rehabilitation and long-term care for those who are left without support following an injury – since in most cases, these athletes are deemed uninsurable by insurance companies due to the high risk nature of their sports.
To help support this great cause, action sports superstars including Ryan Sheckler, Dave Mirra and Mike Spinner, recently teamed up to help Ball Park Franks create a video painting a picture of the assistance ARF provides to these injured athletes.
