The Stratosphere Tower to Dim Lights in Honor of NASCAR Seven-Time Champion Dale Earnhardt

The Stratosphere Tower, the most recognizable icon on the Las Vegas Strip, will dim the lights on its tower for the second year to honor racing legend Dale Earnhardt.

The Stratosphere Tower will turn off its lights at 9:00 pm local time, February 18, 2011, and will remain dark for 10 minutes as a tribute to the 10th Anniversary of Earnhardt’s death. Also during this time the property’s marquee will play a tribute to Dale Earnhardt for three minutes to honor the legendary car number 3.

In December, the Stratosphere Casino, Hotel & Tower opened a special display that showcases the #1 of 10 limited edition Dale Earnhardt Hall of Fame Camaros designed by Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet. Included in the display are artifacts that once belonged to Earnhardt including a Winston Cup Jacket, autographed champagne bottle from Earnhardt’s Winston 500 win, Gargoyle sunglasses, racing gloves, custom racing shoes and other unique items including a special edition Gibson guitar designed by Sam Bass.

On Wednesday, March 2, 2011, the Stratosphere will host the Dale Earnhardt Foundation Celebrity Poker Tournament in the Theater of the Stars Showroom at 4 pm.

Kerry Earnhardt, eldest son of Dale Earnhardt, will host the tournament. NASCAR fans can support the foundation by playing in the poker tournament with some of their favorite drivers; a $150 entry fee into the tournament will be donated to the Dale Earnhardt Foundation. The Grand Prize winner will receive $2,500 in cash and Dale Earnhardt souvenir merchandise. Space is limited to the first 150 people who enter the tournament. Spectator tickets will also be available for a $20 donation to the foundation. The Stratosphere guarantees a minimum donation of $10,000 to the Dale Earnhardt Foundation.
