UFL Omaha Nighthawks Quarterback Jeff Garcia Donates $10,000 to The Salvation Army Kroc Center

The Omaha Nighthawks’ captain and quarterback Jeff Garcia will kick off the holiday season with a $10,000 donation to The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in thanks for all their hard work and generosity. Along with being a state-of-the-art community center for Omaha, the Kroc Center was the all-inclusive training facility for the Nighthawks through the 2010 season, hosting their meals, meetings, practices and church services. The Kroc Center will also be the training center for the Nighthawks during the 2011 season.

“I am very grateful and thankful for The Salvation Army Kroc Center and all that they do for their community in Omaha and for the Omaha Nighthawks,” said four-time Pro Bowler Jeff Garcia. “Just being able to see the influence the Kroc Center has on children and their families was awesome. It gives them a safe haven to study, learn and participate in daily activities and consequently encourages a positive outlook on their daily lives.”

The $10,000 donation will provide Kroc Center membership scholarships that will help kids from poor and disadvantaged families learn to swim, participate in sports, use computers and overall, have a safe place to learn and have fun.

“I know that this donation is going towards a positive cause in continuing to strengthen the young people of Omaha, both mentally and physically. So, thank you to The Salvation Army Kroc Center for caring so much about the future of Omaha’s youth and for being such fantastic hosts to my teammates and me.”

“It was a privilege for all of us at the Kroc Center to serve the Nighthawks in their inaugural season,” said Major Todd Thielke, Senior Kroc Center Officer. “In particular, we appreciate the many positive ways the coaches, staff and players interacted with all of our kids who look to them as role models.”

At The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center, people of all ages discover their unique gifts through positive experiences in health and fitness, education and the arts, sports and recreation, and spiritual enrichment. For more information, please visit www.omahakroc.org.
