After a back-and-forth goal battle, the Las Vegas Wranglers came out on top of the Stockton Thunder tonight, winning 3-2 to secure both a road and home opener win to kick off the 10th anniversary season (Pictured: Wranglers players pile on center Scott Campbell in celebration of the win – Photo credit: IIA Photography).

Stockton took the first lead of the night on a goal from defenseman Teigan Zahn midway through the first period. The Thunder held that lead all the way through the second as both Wranglers goaltender Joe Fallon and Thunder goaltender Tyler Bunz blocked shot after shot to keep it a one-goal game.

Just over two minutes into the third, Wranglers center Judd Blackwater put the first Las Vegas goal of the night on the board. Three minutes later, though, and Stockton had regained their lead on the efforts of left wing Philippe Cornet. The Thunder held that 2-1 lead for another six minutes, until Wranglers center Chris Francis once again knotted the game with a power play goal.

With neither team able to change the score in regulation, the Wranglers faced their first overtime of the season. Needing only thirty seconds, Wranglers center Scott Campbell recorded his first goal of the 2012-13 season to win the game for Las Vegas, 3-2.

The same two teams meet tonight at Orleans Arena, and the Wranglers play a road game against the Bakersfield Condors on Friday, Oct. 26, before returning home to face the Colorado Eagles on Saturday, Oct. 27. Tonight’s full box score can be found here.
