Golden Knights Advance to Stanley Cup Semi-Final
Vegas defeats Colorado Avalanche in Game 6 of Round 2, 3-2
The Vegas Golden Knights are heading to the Stanley Cup Semi-finals after defeating the Colorado Avalanche at T-Mobile arena last night, 6-3.
The Golden Knights had a rough start at the beginning of the series, losing the series opener in a massive 7-1 loss and Game 2, 3-2. The team however made a 3-2 comeback at home in Game 3 and swept the next three games to win the series 4-2.
“I really think the tide changed and we got them involved,” Golden Knights Forward Alex Stone said following their Game 6 victory.
Golden Knights’ Head Coach David DeBoer also credited Vegas’ home-team advantage in their recent games, which hosted fans at full-capacity.
“I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the advantage of the full rink in Games 3, 4 and 6. Huge to our group. Honestly, if we don’t have full capacity and the rink rocking like it was in those games, I’m sure we’re playing a Game 7,” said during a press conference after Game 6.
The Colorado Avalanche still proved themselves to be a formidable opponent though in last night’s game, which for the most-part, involved a lot of back-and-forth attacking and defending.
Avalanche Defenceman Devon Toews scored a goal in the first period, but the Golden Knights’ Nick Holden scored a minute later and Wiliam Karlsson scored late in the first period putting Vegas at 2-1.
Andre Burakovsky brought the game to 3-3, but Alex Pietrangelo scored in the dying seconds of the middle frame to put the Golden Knights ahead, 4-3. William Carrier and Max Pacioretty tacked on goals in the third period as Vegas locked down the series-clinching win.
Vegas’ Will Carrier scored a goal off a rebound in Period 3, with Max Pacioretty added an empty-net goal toward the end of the game to wrap up the series for the Golden Knights.
Vegas goalie Marc-Andre Fleury also kept busy Thursday night with 30 saves last night.
With his 89th career postseason win, Fleury moved into fourth on the all-time playoff wins list among NHL goalies.
The Golden Knights will enjoy three days of rest before facing the Montreal Canadiens in Game 1 on Monday at 6 p.m. at T-Mobile Arena.
The Golden Knights became the first team in NHL history to reach the final four of the playoffs in three of their first four seasons following their series win against Colorado.
The Knights are now gearing up to compete against the Montreal Canadiens in the Stanley Cup Semi-Final, in which both teams will compete for the Clarence Campbell Bowl, which is awarded annually to the Western Conference winner.
Seedings and matchups for the Stanley Cup Semifinals were determined based on regular-season standings. The winner of each best-of-seven Semi-Final will advance to the 2021 Stanley Cup Final.
The National Hockey League announced the dates, starting times and television information for the 2021 Stanley Cup Semifinals, featuring the Montreal Canadiens against the Vegas Golden Knights, and the New York Islanders against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
NBC Sports Group in the U.S. and Sportsnet, CBC and TVA Sports in Canada will provide exclusive national television coverage of the 2021 Stanley Cup Semifinals.
