VGK Advances to Round 3 of Stanley Cup Playoffs

Marc-Andre Fleury made 30 saves as the Vegas Golden Knights defeated the Colorado Avalanche, 6-3, in Game 6 of their Stanley Cup Playoffs Second Round series on Thursday night at T-Mobile Arena.

Vegas has won the best-of-seven series, 4-2, and has advanced to the Stanley Cup Semifinals to face the Montreal Canadiens. Colorado opened the scoring 23 seconds into the game, but Nick Holden answered less than a minute later to tie the game.

Late in the first, William Karlsson buried his fourth goal of the playoffs to give Vegas a 2-1 lead. Mikko Rantanen tied the score early in the second, but Keegan Kolesar‘s first career playoff goal rebuilt the Vegas lead.

Andre Burakovsky brought the game to 3-3, but Alex Pietrangelo scored in the dying seconds of the middle frame to put the Golden Knights ahead, 4-3. William Carrier and Max Pacioretty tacked on goals in the third period as Vegas locked down the series-clinching win.

With his 89th career postseason win, Fleury moved into fourth on the all-time playoff wins list among NHL goalies.

The Golden Knights will enjoy three days of rest before facing the Montreal Canadiens in Game 1 on Monday at 6 p.m. at T-Mobile Arena.

The National Hockey League announced the dates, starting times and television information for the 2021 Stanley Cup Semifinals, featuring the Montreal Canadiens against the Vegas Golden Knights, and the New York Islanders against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Seedings and matchups for the Stanley Cup Semifinals were determined based on regular-season standings. The winner of each best-of-seven Semifinal will advance to the 2021 Stanley Cup Final.
