Las Vegas Resident Mary Rendina Launches Movement to Promote Good Deeds and Honor 1 October Victims

Las Vegas Resident Mary Rendina was moved to start her initiative 58 Random Acts of Kindness in the wake of the Route 91 Harvest Festival shooting.  The mother of three had purchased gift cards in anticipation of meeting with first responders.

Las Vegas Resident Mary Rendina Launches Movement to Promote Good Deeds and Honor 1 October VictimsHer idea to start a movement of random acts of kindness to honor the 58 victims of the 1 October tragedy came from an experience she had on a flight the week following the shooting.

Rendina noticed a flight attendant was having a tough time, so she gave her one of the gift cards.

Since 2017, the movement has evolved into a Facebook group, #58RandomActsofKindness, encouraging participants to perform good deeds. Rendina said the group now has followers from all over the world.

“Participation is as easy as purchasing a card for someone or buying them dinner,” she said.

Now the marketing director for the Complete Association Management Co. (CAMCO) in Las Vegas, Rendina and her cause have garnered corporate sponsorship from the company.

Inspired by the movement, the company’s growing charitable efforts include support of the Rocio Guillen Foundation, with CAMCO raising more than $3,000 to sponsor children to participate in sports programs.

The Rocio Guillen Foundation honors 1 October victim Rocio Guillen by helping those less fortunate, including young athletes who otherwise would not have the financial means to participate in organized sports.

#58RandomActsofKindness is a grassroots kindness movement started in memory of the 58 lives lost in the 1 October shooting in Las Vegas. Founded by Las Vegas resident Mary Rendina, it encourages people to perform random good deeds and share them on social media.
