Could Las Vegas Be the New Hollywood? Warner Bros. Announces $8.5B Film Studio
Warner Bros. has announced that it plans to open a new film studio near Las Vegas, though only if a current film tax credit program is expanded.
On Tuesday, Warner Bros. Discovery announced that it would partner with UNLV and Birtcher Development to open Warner Bros. Studios Nevada, which would be located at the Harry Reid Research and Technology Park. According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, studio would commit $8.5 billion in long-term production spending in Southern Nevada.
However, as the Review-Journal points out, the plan is contingent on the expansion of a current film tax credit program passing in next year’s legislative session.
Reportedly, the Las Vegas film studio would join other Warner Bros. properties in Burbank, California and the U.K. It could create as many as 7,500 locally, with at least half of them in direct film production roles.
The proximity of Las Vegas to California also makes the location an attractive deal for Warner Bros. Travel between the two locations is quick and easy via airline or car, and could be even simpler thanks to a new rail transit plan.
