The Vegas Golden Knights are headed back to the Stanley Cup Final after completing a stunning four-game sweep of the Colorado Avalanche in the Western Conference Final. Vegas secured a 2-1 victory Tuesday night at T-Mobile Arena, clinching the franchise’s third Western Conference title in just nine NHL seasons.
Golden Knights Stanley Cup Final Run Continues After Sweep

The Golden Knights swiftly secured their Stanley Cup Final spot after another disciplined defensive performance against Colorado. Vegas limited the Avalanche’s explosive offense throughout the series and closed out the Presidents’ Trophy winners in front of a packed home crowd.
Per NHL.com, Captain Mark Stone opened the scoring less than five minutes into Game 4. Defenseman Brayden McNabb launched a long pass that sent Stone on a breakaway before he tucked the puck past Colorado goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood.
Vegas continued to pressure Colorado despite several key saves from Blackwood. The Avalanche netminder replaced Scott Wedgewood before Game 4 and delivered multiple highlight-reel stops, including two remarkable saves against Pavel Dorofeyev during a second-period power play.
However, the Golden Knights eventually found another breakthrough late in the third period. Fourth-liner Cole Smith redirected Dylan Coghlan’s shot underneath Blackwood to extend the lead to 2-0 with less than six minutes remaining.
Colorado captain Gabriel Landeskog later spoiled Carter Hart’s shutout bid with a late redirect goal, but Vegas held firm to finish the sweep. “It was probably one of our better games from start to finish,” Smith said after the win.
Vegas Defense Silenced Colorado’s Super-Charged Offense

The Golden Knights entered the series as underdogs against a Colorado team that dominated the regular season and entered the playoffs with an 8-1 postseason record.
Instead, Vegas controlled the pace throughout the Western Conference Final. The team consistently shut down stars like Nathan MacKinnon while forcing Colorado into rushed chances and low-scoring games.
Goaltender Carter Hart continued his strong playoff form by stopping 20 of 21 shots in Game 4. Meanwhile, Vegas defenders blocked passing lanes and limited Colorado’s transition attack throughout the series.
The Avalanche also battled injuries during the matchup. Defenseman Cale Makar missed games earlier in the series, while MacKinnon dealt with an injury scare during Game 3 after blocking a shot.
Colorado’s elimination marked one of the NHL’s most surprising playoff exits in recent years. The Avalanche became one of the few Presidents’ Trophy winners to suffer a sweep before reaching the Stanley Cup Final.
“They’re moving on, and we’re not,” Gabriel Landeskog said after the loss. “Whether that’s in four games or seven games, it hurt just as much.”
Golden Knights Are Set To Face Eastern Conference Final Winners

Vegas will face the Carolina Hurricanes after their defeat of the Montreal Canadiens in the Eastern Conference Final on Wednesday. Carolina initially led that series 2-1 heading into Game 4.
The Golden Knights are making their third Stanley Cup Final appearance since joining the NHL in 2017. The franchise reached the championship series during its inaugural season in 2018 before winning its first Stanley Cup title in 2023.
Head coach John Tortorella said the team remains focused despite the historic sweep. “Now the real stuff starts,” Tortorella said after the game. “I consider the first three rounds of the playoffs. Now we’re playing for the Stanley Cup.”
Vegas also extended its reputation as one of the NHL’s most successful expansion franchises. Since entering the league, the Golden Knights have captured five division titles, three Western Conference championships, and one Stanley Cup.
