The Mirage Hotel & Casino is officially closing on July 17, and with the closure, the iconic volcano will erupt one last time.
The Mirage is known to have ushered in many firsts in Las Vegas Strip history. For example, it was one of the first mega-resorts on The Strip. And, with the Mirage Volcano, it was the first hotel with a roadside attraction.
Technically, the building that houses the Mirage will remain on the Strip, but it will be closed for the next three years as it undergoes a massive renovation. When the renovation completes, it’ll sport a new moniker — the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.
Unfortunately, the renovation will include the closure of the Mirage Volcano, despite a Change.org petition to try and save the iconic Las Vegas attraction. As of writing, the petition has more than 11,000 signatures.
Since the resort opened in 1989, the volcanic display has erupted four times a night, blasting fire, smoke, water, and light across the Las Vegas Strip.
If you’re interested in checking out the Mirage volcano, you have only another night to do so. The Mirage will officially close at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 17.
For those who want to say goodbye to the iconic resort, there will be a closing ceremony starting at 9 a.m. on Wednesday that will honor the hotel and casino’s history and legacy.
