Resorts World Las Vegas Conducting Room Inspections — Here’s Why

Resorts World in Las Vegas is telling guests to expect staff to conduct daily room inspections this week. Here’s why.

The all-inclusive Las Vegas resort said it will be conducting daily “brief visual and non-intrusive.” The reason? There is a pair of “well-known hacking convention[s]” in town.

More specifically, Las Vegas plays host to cybersecurity conferences each year. Black Hat USA, for example, will be held at Mandalay Bay until Thursday, Aug. 8. DefCon kicks off Thursday and runs through Sunday at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Both conventions bring world-class cybersecurity professionals, including a wide range of security specialists and hackers, to Las Vegas. Resorts World said that its room inspections are part of a strategy to ensure “a safe, secure, and comfortable environment for all of our valued guests.”

Resorts World also said that the room inspections are a way to mitigate both physical and cyber risks during periods of time “where vigilance is critical, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Although multiple casinos, hotels, and resorts on the Las Vegas Strip have been the victim of cyberattacks in recent years, security staff at Resorts World said that the policy isn’t the result of any connections between the cybersecurity conferences and the cyberattacks.
